The first International Conference on Virtual Reality in Performing Arts was held

In a consortium led by Arts and Research Partnership, the Faculty of Humanities, University of Debrecen, Hungary, the Faculty of Informatics, University of Debrecen, Hungary, the Institute of Mathematics, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Faculty of Music, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, has organised the first International Conference on Applications of Virtual Reality in Performing Arts, 18-20 August 2022, at the Metropol Lake Resort, Ohrid, Republic of North Macedonia.
The conference serial reflects on the rapidly changing output requirements in higher education.
In the 2022/2023 academic year the BalletWhere consortium implements and test the theatre and ballet history space of MaxWhere system, in dance theoretical and practical education.
MaxWhere can be used in several segments of higher education.
The theme of the international conference is the implementation of all forms of virtual reality especially the MaxWhere system in performing arts education, as well as the usability in higher education in general. This first conference focused on dance as a performing art.

In the 'BALLETWHERE' introductory session
Attila Gilányi, professor of the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Informatics, Hungary gave the keynote speech. In his speech, 'Presentation of art-related spaces in virtual reality' introduced the basic features and types of virtual reality systems, their usability, the properties of MaxWhere and the advantages of its application in research and higher education.
Katarzyna Chmielewska, professor of the Kazimierz Wielki University, Institute of Mathematics, Bydgoszcz, Poland, in her presentation entitled 'MaxWhere as a collaborative arena' introduced MaxWhere as a collaborative arena that gives new environments for the effective delivery of the educational process.
Anna Mária Bólya, managing director of the Arts and Research Partnership, Hungary, in her presentation '3D in teaching dance history - the BalletWhere project', outlined the aim of BalletWhere project, whose main objectives are the creation of research-based teaching materials, the implementation and testing of the MaxWhere ballet history space.
Elek Bartha, Vice Rector for Educational Affairs, professor of the University of Debrecen, Department of Ethnography, Hungary, in his presentation 'Quality digital higher education at the University of Debrecen', gave a brief overview the complex and excellent quality assurance system and digitalisation solutions of the city-sized University of Debrecen.
In the section 'RESEARCH IN PERFORMING ARTS'
Barbara Gábor Haines, professor, Dance Faculty - University of Mobile, Alabama School of the Arts, Musical Theatre Department, Alabama, USA,
in her presentation entitled 'Benesh Movement Notation - A Literacy foundation of Performing Art'
In connection with Vaslav Nijinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps, she spoke about Benesh Movement Notation, which records the body in the third dimension, uses the fourth to record rhythm, and the fifth to represent all dynamics that are intended choreographically.
Nóra Ábrahám, PhD student, at the University of Debrecen, Doctoral School of History and Ethnology, Hungary, in her presentation entitled 'Movement structures and body techniques of Olga Szentpál's taxonomy system' briefly introduced Olga Szentpál's theory of defining dance, which is presented, based on body use. She introduced this system as possibility to apply the 3D planning system. She presented a 3D animation model developed in her own research group.
Lévai Péter, professor, master teacher of the Hungarian Dance University, in his presentation entitled 'This is how to do - Methodological proposition of constructive folk dance-pedagogy in dance education' presented his constructive folk dance pedagogy. His lecture was followed by a workshop, where he introduced his teaching methods to the general public for the first time. Then, with a demonstration of professional dance instructors, he presented some special didactical units of dance education. Demonstrators were Nóra Ábrahám, scholarship fellow at Hungarian Academy of Arts, Research Institute for Art Theory and Methodology, Hungary, Mineá Kropf, dance teacher and choreographer, Budapest Dance Studio, Hungary, Viola Lévai, dance teacher at Goli DanceSpace.
In the secion' TESTING OF MAXWHERE'
Veronika Stoffova, professor of Trnava University in Trnava, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Republic of Slovakia, in her presentation 'Using interactive visualized simulation models in MaxWhere' introduced the use of animations in the teaching process as dynamic processes and phenomena.
Anna Sudár, Business Analyst Lead at MaxWhere Ltd., PhD student at Széchenyi István University, Hungary, in her presentation entitled 'The role of MaxWhere in the use of virtual reality in education' presented new, previously unpublished MaxWhere testing results.
At the closing event of the conference 'PUBLIC BALLETWHERE EVENT', participants could watch a MaxWhere ballet history class, whose MaxWhere story was created by Anna Sudár, and in which Sonja Zdravkova Djeparoska presented unique historical data not yet published about the beginnings of Macedonian ballet history.
As the closing event of the conference fell on 20 August, the Hungarian State Holiday, Attila Gilányi and Anna Mária Bólya presented the MaxWhere 3D auditorium with a presentation on Saint Stephen. This space was also created by Anna Sudár.
